Honouring Remembrance Day
A moment of reflection and unity across KFM and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Today, 11 November, colleagues from KFM and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust came together to mark Remembrance Day (Armistice Day), a time to honour the bravery, service, and sacrifice of those who have served in the Armed Forces.
A service of remembrance was held at the St Luke’s Chapel at King’s, with colleagues also gathering at the PRUH and Orpington Hospital to pay their respects.
Members of our Armed Forces community, including serving Reservists, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, and Veterans, took part in the ceremony, which included the laying of wreaths and readings from the biographies of officers who served during the Great War. The service also paid tribute to King’s College Hospital staff who lost their lives in the wars.
Gavin Jones, KFM Head of Supply Chain & Logistics, and Armed Forces Champion, who recited the Exhortation and the Kohima Epitaph, said, “As Armistice Day approaches each year, I always find the time to dig out my medals and best shoes, to start the long process of polishing and preparing them to wear. I do this not to ‘show off’, but as my way – moreover, the veterans’ way of honouring our fallen forefathers. For most, this can be a difficult time, as we naturally remember those we served with who are no longer with us. Personally, this pilgrimage gets harder with each passing year, but one I shall never miss. On a more upbeat note(!), it fills me with a sense of deep pride to see KFM’s committed Army Reservists, participating in this annual ceremony; ensuring that we, both as a company and as a nation, are doing all we can to remember our heroes of the past.”
Lieutenant Colonel Alex Saunders, Associate Director for Resuscitation, Simulation and Armed Forces for King’s College Hospital, added, “At King’s College Hospital, I’m proud to work alongside colleagues in the Armed Forces Network and KFM, where our collaboration strengthens the sense of unity and shared purpose that defines both healthcare and military service. Remembrance holds particular significance for us; it is not just about pausing for a moment of silence, but about truly reflecting on the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of those who came before us. Together, we honour their legacy through our daily commitment to care, compassion, and service to others.”
This year’s event reflected King’s and KFM’s shared commitment of supporting the Armed Forces community. As proud signatories of the Armed Forces Covenant, we continue to honour those who gave their lives and stand alongside those who serve today.
